Michelle Malkin's Hate Mail

Ok, I know what I just posted but I must put a link to this - Michelle shares some of the truly heinous hate mail she's rec'd of late. It's truly vile & leads one to wonder - what kind of people have the time and compulsion to write this kind of stuff? Who are they? Can we excise them from the human race now? It's truly edifying to see the dregs the left calls its own.

This stuff's really vulgar and I'll offer that no one deserves to have that stuff directed at them. But I have to ask, when is Malkin going to quit trying to paint herself as a perpetual victim?

Reading between the lines of the uncensored versions of the nasty missives in her archive, I gather this is an accumulation over quite a span of time. Having spent 7 years as the editorial voice of a local newspaper, I can tell you that I received equally vulgar responses, in equal volume, directed at me for editorial stands that I took over far less volatile issues than the ones Malkin tackles. Tough to imagine people getting worked up over sewer construction and residential development, but it happens. And I only wrote once a week to a circulation of 8,000.

What I'm saying is, believe it or not, this comes with the territory, so I don't really sympathize. I just say, suck up and deal.

But then we wouldn't have the latest installment in the Michele Malkin, Perpetual Victim series.

I completely disagree with your opinion of Malkin. She consistently calls people/orgs/etc on their bad/unethical/illegal behavior and as you put it, tackles controversial subjects in her blog, her appearances & books. She still does, unabaited. I have yet to observe the victim behavior you describe.

Now, if she wishes to expose the kind of hate mail she gets and the level to which these troglodytes will stoop, then fine - it's her blog (side note: she decided to turn off the comments somewhat recently on her blog because she got so much garbage). This exposure also performs another task - to shame these folks. In my opinion, they should be shamed publicly and ashamed of their vile behavior.

I'm going to be a little snarky here. If she were another demographic, these remarks would be tantamount to the proverbial yelling fire in a crowded theater. But, since she's Asian & conservative, I guess she just has to suck it up, huh?

I advocate civility in all public discourse, no matter who you are. Argue, debate, disagree, but there's just no call to use that kind of vulgarity. Some folks just don't get that.

Cheap shot. Read again what I wrote. I think I made it clear that anyone who wants to stick their neck out editorially has to take what comes their way, whether they buy ink by the barrel or use a keyboard. Malkin gets no free rides. She's welcome to join the club, but does not like the price of entry.

And by the way, your example proves my point about her painting herself as a victim. Asian = victim, conservative = victim.

Rather than take sides, I would simply like to say that this type of behavior is not particular to any side. During the election, there was a site called twounemployeeddemocrats.com, better known as seeyageorge.com. They sold bumperstickers, etc. They recieved an astronomical amount of hate mail. Too bad they dumped the site after the election; it was amazing to read. The vulgarity mostly stemmed from the religiously inspired, accusations of being satanic (for opposing the Lord's disciple!?!). The overriding sentiments were 1)you deserve to die in manners involving feces, 2) God hates you, 3) you communist pinko $&@*ers, and my favorite 4) our democracy depends on you shutting up, supporting the president/God figure, and killing anyone who doesn't think the same. The best part is that they included the return email address (when possible) for anyone interested.

To see the ugly face of any side, you can follow the comments to yahoo news stories. I fully agree with the need for greater civility. But no side has a monopoly. Also, let's face it, the fringes are most often the most vocal.
